Narrative:
Aircraft xyz had a ground interrupt for right engine fail message on MFDU (multi function display unit). Working with technical crew chief abc XXX and mechanic vxv xvx, using pilots MEL engine fail sensor unit was placarded MEL 77-3 from information given to me by abc XXX. The right engine was run by flight crew and message did not come back and flight left. I then checked the MEL myself and only found 77-3 engine fail sensor unit not engine #2 fail MEL. Checking tssm (troubleshooting system manual) MFDU message page both messages can appear, so I believe this problem was incorrectly placarded. I then notified maintenance control and wxw wxw. Wxw wxw was able to contact the flight crew in st louis. They said this problem did not repeat. Wxw wxw then called ZZZ and arranged to have item fixed when it arrives.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A FOKKER 100 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH A DEFERRED ITEM ON THE ENG FAIL WARNING SYS BUT PLACARDED INCORRECTLY.
Narrative: ACFT XYZ HAD A GND INTERRUPT FOR R ENG FAIL MESSAGE ON MFDU (MULTI FUNCTION DISPLAY UNIT). WORKING WITH TECHNICAL CREW CHIEF ABC XXX AND MECH VXV XVX, USING PLTS MEL ENG FAIL SENSOR UNIT WAS PLACARDED MEL 77-3 FROM INFO GIVEN TO ME BY ABC XXX. THE R ENG WAS RUN BY FLC AND MESSAGE DID NOT COME BACK AND FLT LEFT. I THEN CHKED THE MEL MYSELF AND ONLY FOUND 77-3 ENG FAIL SENSOR UNIT NOT ENG #2 FAIL MEL. CHKING TSSM (TROUBLESHOOTING SYS MANUAL) MFDU MESSAGE PAGE BOTH MESSAGES CAN APPEAR, SO I BELIEVE THIS PROB WAS INCORRECTLY PLACARDED. I THEN NOTIFIED MAINT CTL AND WXW WXW. WXW WXW WAS ABLE TO CONTACT THE FLC IN ST LOUIS. THEY SAID THIS PROB DID NOT REPEAT. WXW WXW THEN CALLED ZZZ AND ARRANGED TO HAVE ITEM FIXED WHEN IT ARRIVES.
