Narrative:
ZLA instructed us to descend to cross 12 mi south of lhs at 12000 ft. As we descended through 12200 ft center informed us we were assigned 13000 ft. Both the first officer and I agreed we heard 12000 ft assigned and I read back 12000 ft. A factor might have been my fatigue. I had been working since XA00 and was assigned an additional round trip by scheduling. Another factor was the inexperience of my first officer. He had only worked for us for a few months. Most of our new first officer's come from flight instructor only backgrounds, and are very 'green.'
