Narrative:
On jun/xa/00 one of my student pilots was endorsed for a solo training cross country flight. He completed his preflight and was instructed to taxi out to runway 18 via taxiway G. He turned onto taxiway B from taxiway G instead of continuing the turn on taxiway G to taxiway a. At taxiway B, he became confused because he saw 2 mandatory signs side-by-side -- runway 14/32 being the first and runway 18/36 being the second. He said he thought he would be crossing runway 14/32 instead of runway 18/36 to get to runway 18. This is the point where the incursion occurred. The time of occurrence was XA09Z. The confusion was that you normally cross runway 14 at taxiway a to get to runway 18. He did not realize that at taxiway B, both runways intersect. After he returned and I learned of his mistake, he was given additional instruction concerning runway incursions. I provided him with additional training material to include a pamphlet on reducing runway incursions, a flyer on runway incursions commonsense guidelines, and a referral to the commercial chart private pilot training manual pages 4-29. Additional training was scheduled to include a trip to the ATC facility for additional training. Additional ground and flight instruction will also be given to make sure the student understands all the runway markings.

Title: C172 TRAINEE PLT ON SOLO XCOUNTRY HAD RWY INCURSION AT MLU.
Narrative: ON JUN/XA/00 ONE OF MY STUDENT PLTS WAS ENDORSED FOR A SOLO TRAINING XCOUNTRY FLT. HE COMPLETED HIS PREFLT AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO TAXI OUT TO RWY 18 VIA TXWY G. HE TURNED ONTO TXWY B FROM TXWY G INSTEAD OF CONTINUING THE TURN ON TXWY G TO TXWY A. AT TXWY B, HE BECAME CONFUSED BECAUSE HE SAW 2 MANDATORY SIGNS SIDE-BY-SIDE -- RWY 14/32 BEING THE FIRST AND RWY 18/36 BEING THE SECOND. HE SAID HE THOUGHT HE WOULD BE XING RWY 14/32 INSTEAD OF RWY 18/36 TO GET TO RWY 18. THIS IS THE POINT WHERE THE INCURSION OCCURRED. THE TIME OF OCCURRENCE WAS XA09Z. THE CONFUSION WAS THAT YOU NORMALLY CROSS RWY 14 AT TXWY A TO GET TO RWY 18. HE DID NOT REALIZE THAT AT TXWY B, BOTH RWYS INTERSECT. AFTER HE RETURNED AND I LEARNED OF HIS MISTAKE, HE WAS GIVEN ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTION CONCERNING RWY INCURSIONS. I PROVIDED HIM WITH ADDITIONAL TRAINING MATERIAL TO INCLUDE A PAMPHLET ON REDUCING RWY INCURSIONS, A FLYER ON RWY INCURSIONS COMMONSENSE GUIDELINES, AND A REFERRAL TO THE COMMERCIAL CHART PVT PLT TRAINING MANUAL PAGES 4-29. ADDITIONAL TRAINING WAS SCHEDULED TO INCLUDE A TRIP TO THE ATC FACILITY FOR ADDITIONAL TRAINING. ADDITIONAL GND AND FLT INSTRUCTION WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO MAKE SURE THE STUDENT UNDERSTANDS ALL THE RWY MARKINGS.
