Narrative:

Radio problem en route. Made a landing at maf to repair radio. Have never flown into midland area. Cleared by approach control to tower frequency, cleared to land on runway 16R. In traffic pattern, I was too high, too fast to land on runway 16R so I extended my base leg and turned left. But not knowing the area, when I turned inbound I mistook runway 10 for runway 16R. I had just decided to call the tower when they saw my mistake and cleared me to land on runway 10. This was my mistake. I had too much airspeed. Also, too high. The airport was closer than I thought as I had been looking at other airports in the area, trying to decide which one was maf. The strange area, incorrect airspeed, altitude and a miscalculation of location were my fault. I simply overflew the pattern and lined up on runway 10.

Title: DURING APCH TO AN UNFAMILIAR ARPT, C210 PLT OVERSHOOTS THE ASSIGNED RWY AND LINES UP WITH ANOTHER. TWR NOTICED AND CLRED HIM TO LAND ON THAT RWY.

Narrative: RADIO PROB ENRTE. MADE A LNDG AT MAF TO REPAIR RADIO. HAVE NEVER FLOWN INTO MIDLAND AREA. CLRED BY APCH CTL TO TWR FREQ, CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 16R. IN TFC PATTERN, I WAS TOO HIGH, TOO FAST TO LAND ON RWY 16R SO I EXTENDED MY BASE LEG AND TURNED L. BUT NOT KNOWING THE AREA, WHEN I TURNED INBOUND I MISTOOK RWY 10 FOR RWY 16R. I HAD JUST DECIDED TO CALL THE TWR WHEN THEY SAW MY MISTAKE AND CLRED ME TO LAND ON RWY 10. THIS WAS MY MISTAKE. I HAD TOO MUCH AIRSPD. ALSO, TOO HIGH. THE ARPT WAS CLOSER THAN I THOUGHT AS I HAD BEEN LOOKING AT OTHER ARPTS IN THE AREA, TRYING TO DECIDE WHICH ONE WAS MAF. THE STRANGE AREA, INCORRECT AIRSPD, ALT AND A MISCALCULATION OF LOCATION WERE MY FAULT. I SIMPLY OVERFLEW THE PATTERN AND LINED UP ON RWY 10.
