Narrative:
Radio problem en route. Made a landing at maf to repair radio. Have never flown into midland area. Cleared by approach control to tower frequency, cleared to land on runway 16R. In traffic pattern, I was too high, too fast to land on runway 16R so I extended my base leg and turned left. But not knowing the area, when I turned inbound I mistook runway 10 for runway 16R. I had just decided to call the tower when they saw my mistake and cleared me to land on runway 10. This was my mistake. I had too much airspeed. Also, too high. The airport was closer than I thought as I had been looking at other airports in the area, trying to decide which one was maf. The strange area, incorrect airspeed, altitude and a miscalculation of location were my fault. I simply overflew the pattern and lined up on runway 10.
