Narrative:
Rst runway 20 construction visual illusion. Phase 1 of a 2000 foot extension of the departure end of runway 20 at rst has been completed. This consists of the initial 2000 foot grading and bed preparations with adjacent taxiway extension as well. This runway extension consists presently of a grey crushed gravel base. Phase 2 will consist of pouring concrete for these new areas. There is no current funding or timetable for phase 2. Due to the gravel extensions color and reflectivity and lack of prominent barricades runway 20 looks convincingly longer than actual during approach, landing and roll out. The following is not in place to alert pilots of this potential hazard: 1. No NOTAM 2. No company alert message 3. No airport remarks 4. No verbal notice by rst tower control 5. No prominent barricades or lighting. This situation was described on jun/wed/00 in a company form sent to our flight office. Five weeks later the situation for airline pilots flying to rst is unchanged concerning this matter. I am sending this report because the program has an excellent opportunity to be a proactive tool before someone landing at rst is embarrassed, or worse.

Title: A FK100 FO'S RPT ON THE CONDITION OF THE DEP END OF RWY 20 CONSISTING OF JUST GRAVEL. THERE ARE NO NOTAMS OR OTHER NOTICES TO USERS BY TWR, FAA OR BY CHART REFERENCES AT RST, MN.
Narrative: RST RWY 20 CONSTRUCTION VISUAL ILLUSION. PHASE 1 OF A 2000 FOOT EXTENSION OF THE DEP END OF RWY 20 AT RST HAS BEEN COMPLETED. THIS CONSISTS OF THE INITIAL 2000 FOOT GRADING AND BED PREPARATIONS WITH ADJACENT TAXIWAY EXTENSION AS WELL. THIS RWY EXTENSION CONSISTS PRESENTLY OF A GREY CRUSHED GRAVEL BASE. PHASE 2 WILL CONSIST OF POURING CONCRETE FOR THESE NEW AREAS. THERE IS NO CURRENT FUNDING OR TIMETABLE FOR PHASE 2. DUE TO THE GRAVEL EXTENSIONS COLOR AND REFLECTIVITY AND LACK OF PROMINENT BARRICADES RWY 20 LOOKS CONVINCINGLY LONGER THAN ACTUAL DURING APCH, LNDG AND ROLL OUT. THE FOLLOWING IS NOT IN PLACE TO ALERT PLTS OF THIS POTENTIAL HAZARD: 1. NO NOTAM 2. NO COMPANY ALERT MESSAGE 3. NO ARPT REMARKS 4. NO VERBAL NOTICE BY RST TWR CTL 5. NO PROMINENT BARRICADES OR LIGHTING. THIS SITUATION WAS DESCRIBED ON JUN/WED/00 IN A COMPANY FORM SENT TO OUR FLT OFFICE. FIVE WKS LATER THE SIT FOR AIRLINE PLTS FLYING TO RST IS UNCHANGED CONCERNING THIS MATTER. I AM SENDING THIS RPT BECAUSE THE PROGRAM HAS AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY TO BE A PROACTIVE TOOL BEFORE SOMEONE LNDG AT RST IS EMBARRASSED, OR WORSE.
