Narrative:
Stl airport taxiway P. While taxiing on taxiway P north of taxiway H, construction truck struck the right wingtip of aircraft, an MD80. Captain felt a slight bump and inquired to tower if they saw any damage to the right wingtip. Captain also asked a commuter (taxiing behind) if they saw the truck hit the aircraft or saw any wingtip damage. On 2 separate occasions, the commuter aircraft stated there was no damage to wingtip. The aircraft took off and flew an uneventful flight to cle. Upon landing in cle the captain discovered slight damage to right wingtip. Problem can be solved by placing the construction saw horses such that proper wingtip clearance can be obtained while taxiing.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MD80 CREW FLEW ACFT AFTER BEING HIT BY A TRUCK.
Narrative: STL ARPT TXWY P. WHILE TAXIING ON TXWY P N OF TXWY H, CONSTRUCTION TRUCK STRUCK THE R WINGTIP OF ACFT, AN MD80. CAPT FELT A SLIGHT BUMP AND INQUIRED TO TWR IF THEY SAW ANY DAMAGE TO THE R WINGTIP. CAPT ALSO ASKED A COMMUTER (TAXIING BEHIND) IF THEY SAW THE TRUCK HIT THE ACFT OR SAW ANY WINGTIP DAMAGE. ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE COMMUTER ACFT STATED THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO WINGTIP. THE ACFT TOOK OFF AND FLEW AN UNEVENTFUL FLT TO CLE. UPON LNDG IN CLE THE CAPT DISCOVERED SLIGHT DAMAGE TO R WINGTIP. PROB CAN BE SOLVED BY PLACING THE CONSTRUCTION SAW HORSES SUCH THAT PROPER WINGTIP CLRNC CAN BE OBTAINED WHILE TAXIING.
