Narrative:
We were in line for takeoff on runway 28C at pit. Flight attendant leader informed us of smoke in the cabin. We turned off the air conditioning system, coordinated with ground control and pulled out of the taxi line. Crash fire rescue equipment was called and due to the increasing smoke, acrid smelling from an unidented source, we decided to emergency evacuate/evacuation the aircraft. The evacuate/evacuation was panic free, efficient and professional. Everyone got out safety and we turned the MD88 over to the fire department. The crew worked well together for a textbook evacuate/evacuation.
