Narrative:

We were issued climb clearance to FL230. ZLA issued traffic at 1 O'clock, nwbound, 14000 ft, citation. First officer sighted traffic. Center suggested expedited climb through 16000 ft. I pulled the nose up and immediately received a descend RA. I responded to RA, lowering nose and descending. TCASII registered 500 ft separation, then conflict clear was announced and I continued climb. I feel an increased climb would have given better separation, but I feared the other aircraft might be following a climb RA. The other aircraft appeared not to change its flight path at all.
