Narrative:
TCASII alert. VFR traffic popped up on TCASII within 3 mi of aircraft. I happened to be looking at TCASII at time and told first officer to begin left turn. We then had TCASII alert (RA) and descended to 11000 ft. Never saw traffic. Controller said traffic popped up about time I called him. Missed by 300 ft and 1 mi.
