Narrative:
Air carrier flight xyz on sep/xa/00 was dispatched with the possibly wrong MEL. Item in question was a pneumatic access panel. Item was already MEL'ed on previous flight. MEL ambiguous -- written for B737-300/500 and it was later discovered by company engineering that the MEL applied may not be appropriate.

Title: A B737-300 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH A DEFERRED ITEM ON A REMOVED SVC DOOR WITH THE INCORRECT MEL REF.
Narrative: ACR FLT XYZ ON SEP/XA/00 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE POSSIBLY WRONG MEL. ITEM IN QUESTION WAS A PNEUMATIC ACCESS PANEL. ITEM WAS ALREADY MEL'ED ON PREVIOUS FLT. MEL AMBIGUOUS -- WRITTEN FOR B737-300/500 AND IT WAS LATER DISCOVERED BY COMPANY ENGINEERING THAT THE MEL APPLIED MAY NOT BE APPROPRIATE.
