Narrative:

After obtaining the current ATIS information, I radioed ground and requested permission to taxi to the active runway for takeoff. The assigned runway was unfamiliar. I taxied to the assigned runway and inadvertently crossed over the hold short bars. I mistook the apron area beyond the hold short bars for the run-up area. The controller instructed me to immediately taxi to the other side of the hold short bars -- off of the active runway. After my flight, I went to the control tower to meet the controller and discuss my inadvertent mistake. I learned from the center that it was necessary for the controller to send a plane on short final on a go around, even though I was not on the part of the runway where the plane would land. I got confused -- in an unfamiliar part of the airport -- and thanks to an alert controller, quickly rectified the situation.

Title: SMA PLT HAD RWY INCURSION AT CCR.

Narrative: AFTER OBTAINING THE CURRENT ATIS INFO, I RADIOED GND AND REQUESTED PERMISSION TO TAXI TO THE ACTIVE RWY FOR TKOF. THE ASSIGNED RWY WAS UNFAMILIAR. I TAXIED TO THE ASSIGNED RWY AND INADVERTENTLY CROSSED OVER THE HOLD SHORT BARS. I MISTOOK THE APRON AREA BEYOND THE HOLD SHORT BARS FOR THE RUN-UP AREA. THE CTLR INSTRUCTED ME TO IMMEDIATELY TAXI TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HOLD SHORT BARS -- OFF OF THE ACTIVE RWY. AFTER MY FLT, I WENT TO THE CTL TWR TO MEET THE CTLR AND DISCUSS MY INADVERTENT MISTAKE. I LEARNED FROM THE CTR THAT IT WAS NECESSARY FOR THE CTLR TO SEND A PLANE ON SHORT FINAL ON A GAR, EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOT ON THE PART OF THE RWY WHERE THE PLANE WOULD LAND. I GOT CONFUSED -- IN AN UNFAMILIAR PART OF THE ARPT -- AND THANKS TO AN ALERT CTLR, QUICKLY RECTIFIED THE SIT.
