Narrative:
Air carrier X at FL330 given descent to FL310, air carrier Y was turned out to a 270 degree heading at FL330 after air carrier X was given descent to FL310. Air carrier Y was turned direct mtu VOR air carrier X was handed off to sector 32 and frequency chang. Air carrier Y turned to mtu. Air carrier X did not descend and before he changed frequencys he reported out of FL330. Supplemental information from acn 489091: I was sequencing air carrier X and air carrier Y into slc. Air carrier X was given a clearance to FL310. Then I turned air carrier Y back to mtu with a clearance to descend to FL330. When I noticed air carrier X was not descending out of FL330 I turned air carrier Y to a 270 degree heading to separate it from air carrier X. Supplemental information from acn 489089: both aircraft were descending for arrival into slc. Air carrier Y was turned out for spacing and turned back too soon. Lateral separation was lost. Training was being done on right side. The trainee was definitely behind on keeping up with traffic.

Title: ARTCC TRAINEE RADAR CTLR, RECEIVING INSTRUCTION DURING AN APPARENT OVERTAKE SIT, LOST SEPARATION BTWN 2 ACR ACFT.
Narrative: ACR X AT FL330 GIVEN DSCNT TO FL310, ACR Y WAS TURNED OUT TO A 270 DEG HDG AT FL330 AFTER ACR X WAS GIVEN DSCNT TO FL310. ACR Y WAS TURNED DIRECT MTU VOR ACR X WAS HANDED OFF TO SECTOR 32 AND FREQ CHANG. ACR Y TURNED TO MTU. ACR X DID NOT DSND AND BEFORE HE CHANGED FREQS HE RPTED OUT OF FL330. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 489091: I WAS SEQUENCING ACR X AND ACR Y INTO SLC. ACR X WAS GIVEN A CLRNC TO FL310. THEN I TURNED ACR Y BACK TO MTU WITH A CLRNC TO DSND TO FL330. WHEN I NOTICED ACR X WAS NOT DSNDING OUT OF FL330 I TURNED ACR Y TO A 270 DEG HDG TO SEPARATE IT FROM ACR X. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 489089: BOTH ACFT WERE DSNDING FOR ARR INTO SLC. ACR Y WAS TURNED OUT FOR SPACING AND TURNED BACK TOO SOON. LATERAL SEPARATION WAS LOST. TRAINING WAS BEING DONE ON R SIDE. THE TRAINEE WAS DEFINITELY BEHIND ON KEEPING UP WITH TFC.
