Narrative:
On final approach to runway 32 pit, landing gear extension check revealed no green light on right main gear. Abandoned the approach and recycled landing gear, no green light. Conferred with air carrier maintenance, who suggested 'manual extension.' reviewed and rehearsed QRH procedures, fully briefed cabin crew and passenger, manually extended landing gear. Performed 2 separate visual checks of gear status via cabin view ports. Both revealed and 'unlocked right main gear.' performed 2 low fly-by's for exterior inspection by ATC tower and ground maintenance personnel. These were inconclusive. Reviewed and rehearsed QRH procedures for both lndgs with unsafe landing gear and possible cabin evacuate/evacuation. Declared an emergency and the landing was completed without further incident. The landing gear was inspected by ground maintenance personnel and secured via downlock pin. The aircraft was then taxied to the gate and secured. An appropriate notation was made in the aircraft maintenance logbook.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737-300 CREW HAD UNSAFE GEAR INDICATION ON THE R MAIN GEAR AT PIT.
Narrative: ON FINAL APCH TO RWY 32 PIT, LNDG GEAR EXTENSION CHK REVEALED NO GREEN LIGHT ON R MAIN GEAR. ABANDONED THE APCH AND RECYCLED LNDG GEAR, NO GREEN LIGHT. CONFERRED WITH ACR MAINT, WHO SUGGESTED 'MANUAL EXTENSION.' REVIEWED AND REHEARSED QRH PROCS, FULLY BRIEFED CABIN CREW AND PAX, MANUALLY EXTENDED LNDG GEAR. PERFORMED 2 SEPARATE VISUAL CHKS OF GEAR STATUS VIA CABIN VIEW PORTS. BOTH REVEALED AND 'UNLOCKED R MAIN GEAR.' PERFORMED 2 LOW FLY-BY'S FOR EXTERIOR INSPECTION BY ATC TWR AND GND MAINT PERSONNEL. THESE WERE INCONCLUSIVE. REVIEWED AND REHEARSED QRH PROCS FOR BOTH LNDGS WITH UNSAFE LNDG GEAR AND POSSIBLE CABIN EVAC. DECLARED AN EMER AND THE LNDG WAS COMPLETED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE LNDG GEAR WAS INSPECTED BY GND MAINT PERSONNEL AND SECURED VIA DOWNLOCK PIN. THE ACFT WAS THEN TAXIED TO THE GATE AND SECURED. AN APPROPRIATE NOTATION WAS MADE IN THE ACFT MAINT LOGBOOK.
