Narrative:

During taxi out excessive fumes in cabin and cockpit smelled like burning meal in oven. Flight attendant in charge removed burning meal, but stated she had seen flames alongside wall of oven. The galley power was turned off. Aircraft stopped. ATC notified of problem but no assistance required. Returned to gate to have maintenance inspect galley oven for malfunction and verify no structural failure, damage to galley oven that would jeopardize flight. Maintenance deactivated galley ovens, completed inspection and verified safe for flight.

Title: SMOKE AND FUMES THROUGHOUT ACFT CAUSED BY BURNING MEAL IN GALLEY OVEN.

RETURNED TO GATE TO HAVE MAINT INSPECT GALLEY OVEN FOR MALFUNCTION AND VERIFY NO STRUCTURAL FAILURE, DAMAGE TO GALLEY OVEN THAT WOULD JEOPARDIZE FLT. MAINT DEACTIVATED GALLEY OVENS, COMPLETED INSPECTION AND VERIFIED SAFE FOR FLT.
