Narrative:
Landing runway 1 cvfp mt vernon 1 on landing rollout we turned off the runway onto runway 33. The instructions that I heard were to 'turn left and taxi through the intersection.' it seemed apparent that the tower controller wanted us to turn left on runway 33 (instructions were given as we were decelerating and rolling out) and then left onto taxiway J, but there was an aircraft blocking the taxiway. As a result, we (aircraft X) had not completely cleared runway 33, causing an aircraft to go around. The captain subsequently was told to contact the tower by telephone and the 'tower controller' stated that he told us to taxi beyond runway 33 before exiting the runway. None of the 3 crew members on aircraft X heard that transmission. We don't believe he said that.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B727 FLC EXIT LNDG RWY ONTO ANOTHER RWY CAUSING A GAR.
Narrative: LNDG RWY 1 CVFP MT VERNON 1 ON LNDG ROLLOUT WE TURNED OFF THE RWY ONTO RWY 33. THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT I HEARD WERE TO 'TURN L AND TAXI THROUGH THE INTXN.' IT SEEMED APPARENT THAT THE TWR CTLR WANTED US TO TURN L ON RWY 33 (INSTRUCTIONS WERE GIVEN AS WE WERE DECELERATING AND ROLLING OUT) AND THEN L ONTO TXWY J, BUT THERE WAS AN ACFT BLOCKING THE TXWY. AS A RESULT, WE (ACFT X) HAD NOT COMPLETELY CLRED RWY 33, CAUSING AN ACFT TO GO AROUND. THE CAPT SUBSEQUENTLY WAS TOLD TO CONTACT THE TWR BY TELEPHONE AND THE 'TWR CTLR' STATED THAT HE TOLD US TO TAXI BEYOND RWY 33 BEFORE EXITING THE RWY. NONE OF THE 3 CREW MEMBERS ON ACFT X HEARD THAT XMISSION. WE DON'T BELIEVE HE SAID THAT.
