Narrative:
On the above date while working on aircraft xyz, I was troubleshooting the satcom system. Problem was narrowed down to a defective satellite data unit. A new unit was ordered and installed per applicable maintenance manual. Software downloads and operations check wre good. Approximately 1 week later, I was notified by the shop mechanic who was repairing the old unit that I had installed the incorrect satellite data unit. Its effectivity was for a modification that had not been accomplished yet. The shop had already contacted our maintenance controllers to let them know about the wrong part. I am assuming that they have got the right part installed.
