Narrative:
On jan/xa/01, my crew chief assigned me to placard an APU and gave me the MEL paperwork to complete the assignment. Per the MEL, upon receiving the logbook from the supervisor, I noted that the placard had already been issued for the APU being inoperative, and had already been entered in the logbook. I completed the assignment per the MEL and placed the inoperative sticker on the APU panel. I then proceeded to examine the placard to verify it was filled out and in the logbook. I then signed and dated the logbook. When I returned from my days off, I was informed that the placard had been issued in error because the MEL authority/authorized number had been issued to a different item for the same problem.
