Narrative:
While on climb out to the west from runway 27R en route to key west, departure control advised that our transponder code was incorrect. No traffic conflict existed, and I would normally not consider this much more than an error on our part. However, the first officer did not write down the clearance, as he was very accustomed to flying the same departure, he became complacent. My fault was in not confirming the clearance as I was running late for departure. I will never sacrifice safety for schedule again. The fact that no traffic was affected by our mistake was only luck this time.

Title: ACR MDT FLC WERE ALERTED BY DEP CTLR THAT THEY WERE SHOWING THE WRONG XPONDER CODE DURING CLB AFTER TKOF.
Narrative: WHILE ON CLBOUT TO THE W FROM RWY 27R ENRTE TO KEY WEST, DEP CTL ADVISED THAT OUR XPONDER CODE WAS INCORRECT. NO TFC CONFLICT EXISTED, AND I WOULD NORMALLY NOT CONSIDER THIS MUCH MORE THAN AN ERROR ON OUR PART. HOWEVER, THE FO DID NOT WRITE DOWN THE CLRNC, AS HE WAS VERY ACCUSTOMED TO FLYING THE SAME DEP, HE BECAME COMPLACENT. MY FAULT WAS IN NOT CONFIRMING THE CLRNC AS I WAS RUNNING LATE FOR DEP. I WILL NEVER SACRIFICE SAFETY FOR SCHEDULE AGAIN. THE FACT THAT NO TFC WAS AFFECTED BY OUR MISTAKE WAS ONLY LUCK THIS TIME.
