Narrative:
Location: sjc airport. Cleared to runway 30L, an unusual route, via taxiway Y, taxiway C, cross runway 30L, taxiway C to taxiway west to taxiway B to runway 30L. We checked the airport page for restrs -- noting 75000 pound weight restr on taxiway west between taxiway C and taxiway B. We advised ground control we were unable and he told us the weight restr had been lifted, but not yet published. Against my better judgement, I continued the taxi as cleared on uncomfortably narrow txwys. Sure enough, on the west side of runway 30L I discovered the page note prohibiting taxi on west of runway 30L, south of taxiway J. In hindsight, I should have started in the right direction by checking for restr but was not thorough enough, and was lulled into taxiing by ground control's comments. In future, I will check all sources before accepting a new, unusual taxi clearance.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: UNAUTH TAXI, TXWY INCURSION BY MD80 FLT THAT WAS NOT AUTH FOR THAT TXWY BUT ASSURED BY ATC THAT IT WAS OK AT SJC, CA.
Narrative: LOCATION: SJC ARPT. CLRED TO RWY 30L, AN UNUSUAL RTE, VIA TXWY Y, TXWY C, CROSS RWY 30L, TXWY C TO TXWY W TO TXWY B TO RWY 30L. WE CHKED THE ARPT PAGE FOR RESTRS -- NOTING 75000 LB WT RESTR ON TXWY W BTWN TXWY C AND TXWY B. WE ADVISED GND CTL WE WERE UNABLE AND HE TOLD US THE WT RESTR HAD BEEN LIFTED, BUT NOT YET PUBLISHED. AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGEMENT, I CONTINUED THE TAXI AS CLRED ON UNCOMFORTABLY NARROW TXWYS. SURE ENOUGH, ON THE W SIDE OF RWY 30L I DISCOVERED THE PAGE NOTE PROHIBITING TAXI ON W OF RWY 30L, S OF TXWY J. IN HINDSIGHT, I SHOULD HAVE STARTED IN THE R DIRECTION BY CHKING FOR RESTR BUT WAS NOT THOROUGH ENOUGH, AND WAS LULLED INTO TAXIING BY GND CTL'S COMMENTS. IN FUTURE, I WILL CHK ALL SOURCES BEFORE ACCEPTING A NEW, UNUSUAL TAXI CLRNC.
