Narrative:
A united states judge was given authority/authorized to board aircraft with hand gun. After further checking, the gate agent returned to say the man was not authority/authorized to carry a weapon. My fom says 'not to attempt resolution,' but the agents did remove the man, his bag and his hand gun from the plane. We checked the bag to his destination. The judge was professional, dignified, and cooperative. No problems arose other than 'procedures.' my fom lists many agencies and departments of the federal government that the FAA has approved to carry weapons. I can see or understand why the agent was confused and granted the federal judge a form ss-133. Should any government official be granted the authority/authorized to carry weapons on board? It is a large list. Finally, if the gate agents do try to resolve a mistaken authority/authorized, they should do so with the knowledge of the captain and with airport security police.
