Narrative:
Be advised, the text of SEL14 (SID) departure is very misleading. It reads, 'climb straight ahead, at ncn 5 DME turn left to intercept R276 at or before D24 sel and proceed to sel VOR.' this procedure should read, 'intercept R276 outside the D24 sel and proceed to sel VOR.' this difference in wording led myself and whole crew to intercept the R276 inside the D24 sel. Fatigue was a factor, we were working on the back side of the clock. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter said that on a recent visit that the new chart was clear and easy to interpretation the intention. He also said several acquaintances had made the same mistake using the earlier chart.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR CREW RPTS THE DEP CHART FROM INCHEON, KOREA HAS CONFUSING WORDING ON THE SEL 1A ROUTING.
Narrative: BE ADVISED, THE TEXT OF SEL14 (SID) DEP IS VERY MISLEADING. IT READS, 'CLB STRAIGHT AHEAD, AT NCN 5 DME TURN L TO INTERCEPT R276 AT OR BEFORE D24 SEL AND PROCEED TO SEL VOR.' THIS PROC SHOULD READ, 'INTERCEPT R276 OUTSIDE THE D24 SEL AND PROCEED TO SEL VOR.' THIS DIFFERENCE IN WORDING LED MYSELF AND WHOLE CREW TO INTERCEPT THE R276 INSIDE THE D24 SEL. FATIGUE WAS A FACTOR, WE WERE WORKING ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE CLOCK. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR SAID THAT ON A RECENT VISIT THAT THE NEW CHART WAS CLR AND EASY TO INTERP THE INTENTION. HE ALSO SAID SEVERAL ACQUAINTANCES HAD MADE THE SAME MISTAKE USING THE EARLIER CHART.
