Narrative:
While attempting to fly J131 south of pxv, there was a large thunderstorm on the airway, so I requested a radar vector east of course which was sufficient to get by the thunderstorm. I was at FL330 on the vector when the ATC controller aid to fly 20 degrees right to avoid traffic. This heading would have put me into the middle of the cell. I refused the vector and the controller replied 'will you jut run into your traffic.' I did not respond to this statement, however, I did say that we could go further right than 20 degrees. I was then handed off to ZME who descended us to FL310. The entire time of this potential conflict, I was watching the opposite direction traffic on TCASII and we had more than enough room to get safely by without flying into a large thunderstorm.

Title: S80 FLC REFUSES ZID TURN CLRNC FOR TFC DUE TO PROX OF TSTM, LISTENS CTLR'S COMMENTS AND OFFERS AN ALTERNATE COURSE WHEN ZID ISSUES FREQ CHANGE TO ZME.
Narrative: WHILE ATTEMPTING TO FLY J131 S OF PXV, THERE WAS A LARGE TSTM ON THE AIRWAY, SO I REQUESTED A RADAR VECTOR E OF COURSE WHICH WAS SUFFICIENT TO GET BY THE TSTM. I WAS AT FL330 ON THE VECTOR WHEN THE ATC CTLR AID TO FLY 20 DEGS R TO AVOID TFC. THIS HDG WOULD HAVE PUT ME INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE CELL. I REFUSED THE VECTOR AND THE CTLR REPLIED 'WILL YOU JUT RUN INTO YOUR TFC.' I DID NOT RESPOND TO THIS STATEMENT, HOWEVER, I DID SAY THAT WE COULD GO FURTHER R THAN 20 DEGS. I WAS THEN HANDED OFF TO ZME WHO DSNDED US TO FL310. THE ENTIRE TIME OF THIS POTENTIAL CONFLICT, I WAS WATCHING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION TFC ON TCASII AND WE HAD MORE THAN ENOUGH ROOM TO GET SAFELY BY WITHOUT FLYING INTO A LARGE TSTM.
