Narrative:
Had flown rosslyn lda 19 approach as published earlier in the day. This time, we were cleared to 2000 ft MSL and cleared for the approach. As per company procedures, upon reaching 2000 ft, I set next altitude in MCP window. I had briefed to descend after maudy intersection, 3000 ft to 2000 ft. Upon reaching maudy intersection, I saw the next altitude in the MCP window and started down. Reached the next point approximately 900 ft low. We were VFR by now and realized we were low. Did gradual climb to re-establish 3:1 GS and landed normally. Factors contributing to loss of situational awareness: 1) both myself and copilot are new (less than 160 hours in type). 2) first time either one of us had flown this month. 3) didn't brief 'ball note' about lower intercept altitude. Might have prevented seeing what I wanted to see at maudy intersection. 4) should have used 'pri' mode of HUD to get raw data GS information on HUD.

Title: ACR FLT CREW OVERSHOOT LDA DCA RWY 19 APCH XING RESTR AND RECOVER FROM UNSTABLE APCH. CAPT STATES HE AND FO ARE NEW TO ACFT TYPE AND MISSED CHARTING NOTES.
Narrative: HAD FLOWN ROSSLYN LDA 19 APCH AS PUBLISHED EARLIER IN THE DAY. THIS TIME, WE WERE CLRED TO 2000 FT MSL AND CLRED FOR THE APCH. AS PER COMPANY PROCS, UPON REACHING 2000 FT, I SET NEXT ALT IN MCP WINDOW. I HAD BRIEFED TO DSND AFTER MAUDY INTXN, 3000 FT TO 2000 FT. UPON REACHING MAUDY INTXN, I SAW THE NEXT ALT IN THE MCP WINDOW AND STARTED DOWN. REACHED THE NEXT POINT APPROX 900 FT LOW. WE WERE VFR BY NOW AND REALIZED WE WERE LOW. DID GRADUAL CLB TO RE-ESTABLISH 3:1 GS AND LANDED NORMALLY. FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO LOSS OF SITUATIONAL AWARENESS: 1) BOTH MYSELF AND COPLT ARE NEW (LESS THAN 160 HRS IN TYPE). 2) FIRST TIME EITHER ONE OF US HAD FLOWN THIS MONTH. 3) DIDN'T BRIEF 'BALL NOTE' ABOUT LOWER INTERCEPT ALT. MIGHT HAVE PREVENTED SEEING WHAT I WANTED TO SEE AT MAUDY INTXN. 4) SHOULD HAVE USED 'PRI' MODE OF HUD TO GET RAW DATA GS INFO ON HUD.
