Narrative:
We departed vny on an east departure. Vny was slow in handing us off to bur, and I realized that we were into bur's class C airspace. I had expected to be handed off from the vny controller to bur's in a timely manner (as had occurred earlier this same day), but that didn't happen. I requested a frequency change to bur. As I switched to bur's frequency, I heard an air carrier pilot describing my helicopter. I found myself in the way of his approach into bur. When the frequency was available, I quickly idented myself and got out of the way. As a result of my expectation of being transitioned from one controller to another, I inadvertently crossed the extended centerline of a bur runway without talking to ATC first. The bur controller explained the necessity for a call prior to crossing the extended centerline of the runway.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: HELI DEPARTING VNY STRAYS INTO BUR CLASS C AIRSPACE EXPECTING A FREQ CHANGE OR HDOF FROM VNY.
Narrative: WE DEPARTED VNY ON AN E DEP. VNY WAS SLOW IN HANDING US OFF TO BUR, AND I REALIZED THAT WE WERE INTO BUR'S CLASS C AIRSPACE. I HAD EXPECTED TO BE HANDED OFF FROM THE VNY CTLR TO BUR'S IN A TIMELY MANNER (AS HAD OCCURRED EARLIER THIS SAME DAY), BUT THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. I REQUESTED A FREQ CHANGE TO BUR. AS I SWITCHED TO BUR'S FREQ, I HEARD AN ACR PLT DESCRIBING MY HELI. I FOUND MYSELF IN THE WAY OF HIS APCH INTO BUR. WHEN THE FREQ WAS AVAILABLE, I QUICKLY IDENTED MYSELF AND GOT OUT OF THE WAY. AS A RESULT OF MY EXPECTATION OF BEING TRANSITIONED FROM ONE CTLR TO ANOTHER, I INADVERTENTLY CROSSED THE EXTENDED CTRLINE OF A BUR RWY WITHOUT TALKING TO ATC FIRST. THE BUR CTLR EXPLAINED THE NECESSITY FOR A CALL PRIOR TO XING THE EXTENDED CTRLINE OF THE RWY.
