Narrative:
After reducing climb power and accelerating through 0 degrees manual speed (vref 80), the left engine failed. Emergency declared and leveled at 3000 ft. Vectored for an ILS runway 27L in VMC. (Engine failure and overweight procedures accomplished.) flight attendants advised we were returning to phl for a 'normal' landing. Passenger advised we were having problems with one of the engines and returning with a normal landing. Emergency equipment followed the aircraft to the taxiway where it was towed to the gate. Flight crew, ATC, cabin crew and airport auths did their jobs well.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B762 CREW EXPERIENCED AN ENG FAILURE ON INITIAL CLBOUT OF PHL.
Narrative: AFTER REDUCING CLB PWR AND ACCELERATING THROUGH 0 DEGS MANUAL SPD (VREF 80), THE L ENG FAILED. EMER DECLARED AND LEVELED AT 3000 FT. VECTORED FOR AN ILS RWY 27L IN VMC. (ENG FAILURE AND OVERWT PROCS ACCOMPLISHED.) FLT ATTENDANTS ADVISED WE WERE RETURNING TO PHL FOR A 'NORMAL' LNDG. PAX ADVISED WE WERE HAVING PROBS WITH ONE OF THE ENGS AND RETURNING WITH A NORMAL LNDG. EMER EQUIP FOLLOWED THE ACFT TO THE TXWY WHERE IT WAS TOWED TO THE GATE. FLC, ATC, CABIN CREW AND ARPT AUTHS DID THEIR JOBS WELL.
