Narrative:
I was cleared to land runway 30R at stl by tower. I was coming from northeast, and I saw runway on the right side and started to turn to final, but I realized it was not runway 30R, and was runway 24. So I called the tower to verify I get right runway. In a moment, the controller told me that it was runway 24. That time I decided to go around, and I told the tower that I am going around and requested vector for landing runway 30R. The tower gave heading 060 degrees and 150 degrees for runway 30R. Then I landed runway 30R safely. I think that cause of the event was, a lack of picture of airport in my head, lack of judgement and fatigue.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: GA PLT LOSES POSITIONAL AWARENESS AND ATTEMPTS APCH TO WRONG RWY, EXECUTES A GAR AND LANDS ON CORRECT RWY AT STL.
Narrative: I WAS CLRED TO LAND RWY 30R AT STL BY TWR. I WAS COMING FROM NE, AND I SAW RWY ON THE R SIDE AND STARTED TO TURN TO FINAL, BUT I REALIZED IT WAS NOT RWY 30R, AND WAS RWY 24. SO I CALLED THE TWR TO VERIFY I GET RIGHT RWY. IN A MOMENT, THE CTLR TOLD ME THAT IT WAS RWY 24. THAT TIME I DECIDED TO GO AROUND, AND I TOLD THE TWR THAT I AM GOING AROUND AND REQUESTED VECTOR FOR LNDG RWY 30R. THE TWR GAVE HEADING 060 DEGS AND 150 DEGS FOR RWY 30R. THEN I LANDED RWY 30R SAFELY. I THINK THAT CAUSE OF THE EVENT WAS, A LACK OF PICTURE OF ARPT IN MY HEAD, LACK OF JUDGEMENT AND FATIGUE.
