Narrative:
During the approach into kansas city downtown airport, while being vectored, clearance to descend was given and acknowledged. New altitude was set in altitude preselect. Autoplt was engaged during the entire flight. 1000 ft call was made prior to reaching assigned altitude. Other cockpit duties were being performed in anticipation of landing. However, neither the PIC (who was also the PF) nor I noticed that the autoplt did not capture the assigned altitude until we received further descent clearance.

Title: A CE550 FLT CREW FAILED TO LEVEL OFF AT ASSIGNED ALT WHEN THE AUTOPLT DIDN'T CAPTURE SET ALT.
Narrative: DURING THE APCH INTO KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN ARPT, WHILE BEING VECTORED, CLRNC TO DSND WAS GIVEN AND ACKNOWLEDGED. NEW ALT WAS SET IN ALT PRESELECT. AUTOPLT WAS ENGAGED DURING THE ENTIRE FLT. 1000 FT CALL WAS MADE PRIOR TO REACHING ASSIGNED ALT. OTHER COCKPIT DUTIES WERE BEING PERFORMED IN ANTICIPATION OF LNDG. HOWEVER, NEITHER THE PIC (WHO WAS ALSO THE PF) NOR I NOTICED THAT THE AUTOPLT DID NOT CAPTURE THE ASSIGNED ALT UNTIL WE RECEIVED FURTHER DSCNT CLRNC.
