Narrative:
On the morning of aug/xa/01, ZZZ maintenance called and informed me that while accomplishing special items card, on the left thrust reverser, the resistance check of the M966 micro switch pack was out of limits. ZZZ maintenance asked if they could placard the thrust reverser inoperative and lock it out per MEL 78-01. I pulled up the copy of job card that was on my maintenance check manual and red supplemental information book and saw nothing stating that I could not put the reverser on MEL. ZZZ maintenance had an advanced action copy of job card, but did not inform me that on pages 2 and 13, there was an MEL requirements block which stated that the thrust reverser could not be placarded inoperative for failing that step of the check. With the information available to me at the time, I saw no reason not to placard the reverser under the MEL, since it is supposed to be locked out per the mpm, which should prevent an inadvertent deployment.
