Narrative:

We were cleared for a visual approach. We were #1 to the airport. Our position was close to the city when we were cleared for the approach. I flew a close in approach and started a slow descent over the city. Although, we had more than adequate altitude clearance, it occurred to me that I may not have been in full compliance with the 1000 ft required clearance within 5 mi, minimum altitude regulation. In the future, I will refer to my charts to find the tallest building altitude, and plan my descent accordingly.
