Narrative:
While en route from alaska to southwest us in a VFR aircraft I was delayed in alberta, canada, for over two weeks following the terrorist attacks. Once VFR flight resumed in the us I was told that VFR flts across the border were not allowed, but I never received a definitive answer on whether I could file VFR to a border crossing strip, pass customs there, then continue VFR within the us from there. After hearing 'rumors' of other pilots crossing this way, I filed from lethbridge to del bonita, landed and passed us customs. Upon departure I climb until great FSS could be reached, staying directly over the border. The FSS person confirmed that I had passed customs then allowed me to file a VFR flight plan to cutbank, mt. To the best of my knowledge this was all ok.
