Narrative:

We had logbook for aircraft in the cockpit. Maintenance deferred a fuel gauge and took the logbook off the aircraft to generate a new maintenance release. They brought a logbook back and we checked the maintenance release. It was correct. Once airborne, we discovered that they had given us the logbook for another aircraft with the maintenance release for our aircraft inside.
