Narrative:
Performed lightning strike repairs per structural repair manual, as always, have done in the past. I was informed on aug/mon/03 that several people have not used the maintenance task in addition to the structural repair manual to sign off the non-routine cards. The problem is, nobody from engineering or maintenance control pubs informed maintenance of this. Leads, supervisors, and mechanics were not aware of this, because no aircraft training manual or any other document was produced to reflect this change in maintenance sign-off policy. I believe this is a mistake on the part of whomever generated the document, and whomever approved the document by not informing the people who actually have to perform the task. Supplemental 590963: I now know to use the task card in the future. I would strongly recommend that the company insert hyperlinks on the computers to bring up any task cards first, so we can view them prior to going to the structural repair manual as we normally do. There has not been any effort by the company to inform us of new task cards when they generate them.

Title: A B737-300 ACFT WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH INCORRECT PAPERWORK SIGNED OFF FOR LIGHTNING STRIKE INSPECTION AND REPAIR.
Narrative: PERFORMED LIGHTNING STRIKE REPAIRS PER STRUCTURAL REPAIR MANUAL, AS ALWAYS, HAVE DONE IN THE PAST. I WAS INFORMED ON AUG/MON/03 THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE NOT USED THE MAINT TASK IN ADDITION TO THE STRUCTURAL REPAIR MANUAL TO SIGN OFF THE NON-ROUTINE CARDS. THE PROB IS, NOBODY FROM ENGINEERING OR MAINT CTL PUBS INFORMED MAINT OF THIS. LEADS, SUPVRS, AND MECHS WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS, BECAUSE NO ACFT TRAINING MANUAL OR ANY OTHER DOCUMENT WAS PRODUCED TO REFLECT THIS CHANGE IN MAINT SIGN-OFF POLICY.
