Narrative:
Aircraft had a #1 engine egt exceedance. The item was deferred for a borescope within 10 cycles. I was informed by maintenance control that borescope was not required according to engineering and cleared the item. The maintenance controller informed me to clear the item -- that it fell into the 'B' group and engineering was informed and decided that a borescope was not needed. Maintenance manual 72-00-00-6 paragraph C states otherwise. Problem was detected after paperwork review and questioning of engineering.
