Narrative:
2 aft fuel pumps deferred, fresh maintenance release document, all deferred items with stickers and reference numbers. I thought that 1 fuel pump per main tank must be ok with maintenance to defer. No limitation in flight manual for main tank pumps. Informed by dispatch via commercial radio toward end of flight to call. Flight was illegal because apparently only 1 of 4 may be deferred. My trust in what appeared to be a clean logbook was misplaced. Additional postflt discussions with my first officer after finding out our illegal dispatch with this flight left me with no other ideas as to how to have prevented this.
