Narrative:
While on an IFR part 91 training flight with a student, we were vectored into a tfr. My student did not ask for fdc NOTAMS during his briefing from FSS, so I asked the ATC if he knew if it was still valid. He said 'not to my knowledge.' in a briefing for a flight later that day I asked FSS if the tfr was still active and he said it was. Cause: student not asking for fdc NOTAMS. Instructor (me) not checking if tfr was still active. ATC mis-informed that tfr was not active. Instructor taking ATC's word that it was not. To prevent: get fdc NOTAMS at all briefings. Better inform ATC of tfr in their areas.
