Narrative:
I was doing touch-and-goes at orl, runway 7 active. I was on my third time around in the pattern. I was on left downwind runway 7 and orl tower cleared me for touch-and-go, #2 for landing. I looked at the approach end of runway 7 and saw an aircraft at 1/2 - 3/4 mi final and figured he was the #1. Having the runway in sight over my left shoulder, I proceeded to turn left base, then was turning onto final when orl tower ordered me to return to downwind without a reason. I asked for a repeat of instructions to ensure the call was for my aircraft. Orl tower ordered an immediate 'turn south now!' I did so and immediately saw the twin approaching in descent mode about 500 ft away. I pushed my aircraft into rapid descent. It was too close! Orl tower said nothing by way of apology or excuse! I continued for one more time around the pattern after being cleared to return to final by ord tower. The tower controller apparently forgot about my position being #2 for landing. Inadequate sequencing the problem.

Title: C182 PLT HAD LESS THAN LEGAL SPACING FROM AN UNKNOWN TWIN ACFT IN ORL CLASS D AIRSPACE.
Narrative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
