Narrative:
After announcing my intentions at an uncontrolled airfield, I entered a left downwind, called out base and final for runway 9. After establishing the final approach, I suddenly saw a piper cherokee appearing below me, also on final. It seemed to have entered from the right. I heard no announcement for the traffic, either on base or final. After visual contact on my part of the piper, I heard the piper pilot announcing being on final. I repeated that I was on short final for the runway in use. I pulled up to the right and the other pilot pulled up to the left, to repeat his approach again from the left side of the runway. After the danger had passed, I proceeded to land. It takes constant vigilance, particularly at an uncontrolled field, to stay out of harm's way.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NMAC BTWN AN SMA ON SHORT FINAL AND CHEROKEE, JUST BELOW, ALSO ON SHORT FINAL. BOTH ACFT TURNED FROM FINAL APCH COURSE IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AFTER RPTR REPEATED BEING ON SHORT FINAL.
Narrative: AFTER ANNOUNCING MY INTENTIONS AT AN UNCTLED AIRFIELD, I ENTERED A L DOWNWIND, CALLED OUT BASE AND FINAL FOR RWY 9. AFTER ESTABLISHING THE FINAL APCH, I SUDDENLY SAW A PIPER CHEROKEE APPEARING BELOW ME, ALSO ON FINAL. IT SEEMED TO HAVE ENTERED FROM THE R. I HEARD NO ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE TFC, EITHER ON BASE OR FINAL. AFTER VISUAL CONTACT ON MY PART OF THE PIPER, I HEARD THE PIPER PLT ANNOUNCING BEING ON FINAL. I REPEATED THAT I WAS ON SHORT FINAL FOR THE RWY IN USE. I PULLED UP TO THE R AND THE OTHER PLT PULLED UP TO THE L, TO REPEAT HIS APCH AGAIN FROM THE L SIDE OF THE RWY. AFTER THE DANGER HAD PASSED, I PROCEEDED TO LAND. IT TAKES CONSTANT VIGILANCE, PARTICULARLY AT AN UNCTLED FIELD, TO STAY OUT OF HARM'S WAY.
