Narrative:
After passing pdz VOR, center told us to maintain 7000 ft due to A320 airbus descending to 8000 ft. While level at 7000 ft we could see that A320 was descending through 8000 ft. Since our courses were taking us very close to each other, I climbed to avoid the airbus. Just as I started to climb, center told us to climb, and TCASII told us to climb.

Title: B737-300 CREW AND A320 HAD LESS THAN LEGAL SEPARATION IN ZLA CLASS E.
Narrative: AFTER PASSING PDZ VOR, CTR TOLD US TO MAINTAIN 7000 FT DUE TO A320 AIRBUS DSNDING TO 8000 FT. WHILE LEVEL AT 7000 FT WE COULD SEE THAT A320 WAS DSNDING THROUGH 8000 FT. SINCE OUR COURSES WERE TAKING US VERY CLOSE TO EACH OTHER, I CLBED TO AVOID THE AIRBUS. JUST AS I STARTED TO CLB, CTR TOLD US TO CLB, AND TCASII TOLD US TO CLB.
