Narrative:
Atl ground control told us (the crew) to taxi out on taxiway M to runway 9L for departure. Taxiway M is the outer taxiway, on the south complex at hartsfield, and requires the pilot to taxi on the inner taxiway left a short distance because the intxns between taxiway left and M do not line up with the ramps in atlanta. I had made the initial turn onto taxiway left, when the back-end crew chimed about a disturbance in the cabin. Some focus went on to the momentary distraction and I missed the first intersection onto taxiway M. As I started onto the second intersection to taxiway M, ground asked where we were going and told us to listen up. This goes back to the basics -- if something becomes a distraction, stop the aircraft and advise ground.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A DC9 CREW TAXIING FOR TKOF AT ATL MISSED THEIR TURN TO THE OUTER AND RECEIVED A QUERY FROM GND CTL.
Narrative: ATL GND CTL TOLD US (THE CREW) TO TAXI OUT ON TXWY M TO RWY 9L FOR DEP. TXWY M IS THE OUTER TXWY, ON THE S COMPLEX AT HARTSFIELD, AND REQUIRES THE PLT TO TAXI ON THE INNER TXWY L A SHORT DISTANCE BECAUSE THE INTXNS BTWN TXWY L AND M DO NOT LINE UP WITH THE RAMPS IN ATLANTA. I HAD MADE THE INITIAL TURN ONTO TXWY L, WHEN THE BACK-END CREW CHIMED ABOUT A DISTURBANCE IN THE CABIN. SOME FOCUS WENT ON TO THE MOMENTARY DISTR AND I MISSED THE FIRST INTXN ONTO TXWY M. AS I STARTED ONTO THE SECOND INTXN TO TXWY M, GND ASKED WHERE WE WERE GOING AND TOLD US TO LISTEN UP. THIS GOES BACK TO THE BASICS -- IF SOMETHING BECOMES A DISTR, STOP THE ACFT AND ADVISE GND.
