Narrative:
Was taxiing for takeoff, inadvertently began to taxi onto active runway. Controller clarified that clearance to taxi to a runway does not give you clearance to cross it in order to taxi to takeoff end. After this incident, I reviewed ground procedures. Remainder of flight was uneventful.

Title: C172 STUDENT PLT WHILE TAXIING OUT FOR TKOF STARTED XING ACTIVE RWY UNTIL THE TWR CTLR INTERVENED AND CLARIFIED HIS CLRNC.
Narrative: WAS TAXIING FOR TKOF, INADVERTENTLY BEGAN TO TAXI ONTO ACTIVE RWY. CTLR CLARIFIED THAT CLRNC TO TAXI TO A RWY DOES NOT GIVE YOU CLRNC TO CROSS IT IN ORDER TO TAXI TO TKOF END. AFTER THIS INCIDENT, I REVIEWED GND PROCS. REMAINDER OF FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL.
