Narrative:

When asked to taxi to runway 23L from position microphone one via bravo, we missed taxiway bravo. We used the same route that we had used previously with the same taxi clearance. The previous day I asked where taxi bravo was since the txwys have been redesignated. I marked the new designation on my chart. Contributing to the problem is very poor signage at the airport and the new airport diagram pages are not quite correct. This may become more of a problem when runway 23/5R is closed next month. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter has been flying the B-747-400 for over 16 yrs now. He has been into nzaa on numerous occasions. He considers that he knows the airport well. Since the beginning of runway construction extensive taxiway designation changes have occurred. ATCT ground controllers use a mixture of old taxiway designators and new taxiway designators. As a result, the crew really doesn't know exactly what they are saying. Reporter stated again that taxiway signs never were very good, but are now non existent. Nothing matches the new taxiway designations. The captain indicated that runway 5L-23R is scheduled to be opened next week. He is concerned someone may enter the runway accidentally presenting a real collision hazard.

Title: B747-400 CREW MISSED THE TURN ONTO TXWY B FROM INT'L TXWY D6. CREW NOTES THAT TXWY SIGNAGE IS NOT PRESENT AND THE ARPT PLATE PAGE MAPS DO NOT CORRESPOND TO THE ACTUAL TXWY POSITIONS.

Narrative: WHEN ASKED TO TAXI TO RWY 23L FROM POSITION MIKE ONE VIA BRAVO, WE MISSED TXWY BRAVO. WE USED THE SAME RTE THAT WE HAD USED PREVIOUSLY WITH THE SAME TAXI CLRNC. THE PREVIOUS DAY I ASKED WHERE TAXI BRAVO WAS SINCE THE TXWYS HAVE BEEN REDESIGNATED. I MARKED THE NEW DESIGNATION ON MY CHART. CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROB IS VERY POOR SIGNAGE AT THE ARPT AND THE NEW ARPT DIAGRAM PAGES ARE NOT QUITE CORRECT. THIS MAY BECOME MORE OF A PROB WHEN RWY 23/5R IS CLOSED NEXT MONTH. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR HAS BEEN FLYING THE B-747-400 FOR OVER 16 YRS NOW. HE HAS BEEN INTO NZAA ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. HE CONSIDERS THAT HE KNOWS THE ARPT WELL. SINCE THE BEGINNING OF RWY CONSTRUCTION EXTENSIVE TXWY DESIGNATION CHANGES HAVE OCCURRED. ATCT GND CTLRS USE A MIXTURE OF OLD TXWY DESIGNATORS AND NEW TXWY DESIGNATORS. AS A RESULT, THE CREW REALLY DOESN'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE SAYING. RPTR STATED AGAIN THAT TXWY SIGNS NEVER WERE VERY GOOD, BUT ARE NOW NON EXISTENT. NOTHING MATCHES THE NEW TXWY DESIGNATIONS. THE CAPT INDICATED THAT RWY 5L-23R IS SCHEDULED TO BE OPENED NEXT WEEK. HE IS CONCERNED SOMEONE MAY ENTER THE RWY ACCIDENTALLY PRESENTING A REAL COLLISION HAZARD.
