Narrative:
Taxi for takeoff at trondheim, norway, runway 27. Instructed to hold short of runway. We needed to back taxi and turn around. First officer suddenly noticed runway was too narrow to turn around on. Temporarily forgetting about the hold short clearance, I taxied closer to the runway to see how we were going to turn around. Before entering the runway, the first officer saved me by stating 'me didn't think we had clearance to taxi into position yet.' I hit the brakes. He was right. My mind was occupied with the turn, and convinced myself we were cleared into position. Loss of concentration from long duty day and lots of flying in last 4-5 days.
