Narrative:
After the run-up, we taxied up to the hold short lines. We tried to turn left to look at final. When using left rudder, the airplane did not turn left, the CFI on my right side took over, hit both brakes. The plane only turned right and went off the taxiway. We shut down the airplane and line crew came out and pulled airplane off the grass. Supplemental information from acn 544429: the plane was idling at about 1300 RPM. When we went to look for traffic, the plane wouldn't turn left when left rudder and brake were applied. So, I hit both brakes to stop and not to go into the grass but the right brake stuck and we taxied off the taxiway onto the grass. Nothing was damaged and no one was injured.
