Narrative:
En route to ida, we had just leveled at FL260 when the outside window pane of the captain's windshield shattered. We initiated an emergency descent and declared an emergency. We diverted to pih and landed uneventfully. Our airline has no procedure for problem, even though it happens several times per yr. It would be nice to know how dangerous this is, so we can plan accordingly. We didn't know if it was going to break completely through or if we really hadn't affected the structure much.
