Narrative:
On mar/wed/02, FAA inspector mr X advised me of 2 items he had found on an inbound through-flight XXXX. The first item was the first class lavatory garbage bin door was weak. The second item was the captain's shoulder harness is frayed. The second item was a possible no-go item, due to no replacement parts at ZZZ. This item was my primary concern at the time. I immediately contacted B757 ZZZ1 technical for guidance and also contacted my supervisor. After discussing both items with technician he advised me of the deferral normally used for deferring the lavatory trash bin door and the maintenance manual reference for the inspection check of the frayed shoulder harness. After reviewing both pertaining to deferring the garbage bin door and the maintenance manual 25-11-00-6 which pertained to the frayed harness, I came to the following conclusions: 1) the frayed captain's harness was within maintenance manual limits and 2) PD125-99D for the door was also good. It said lavatory and galley doors. It also said to tape up the door and apply 'do not use' stickers, which I did. It did not say that the trash bin door was not included in this -- if this is the case, it should have been there. With the information and guidance available to me, I feel that both items were deferred correctly.
