Narrative:
Normal ILS and landing onto lax runway 25R. Runway 25L closed. After landing tower instructed us to vacate the runway and contact ground control. Holding short of inner taxiway we inadvertently called north ground control who told us to contact south ground which caused about a 30 second delay in communication. Ground cleared us to taxi to the gate and asked us to call tower on the telephone. During constructive conversation, tower supervisor informed me that ground radar had idented that our aircraft tail was overhanging runway area and that tower had to delay the takeoff of an aircraft holding into position. Due to loss of runway 25L and tight ATC spacing, this caused the go around of landing aircraft behind us. At the time it was my belief that entire aircraft was clear of runway. This can be difficult to determine because of different layouts of airport configns, lack of rearward visibility and no sensors or devices to assist crew in determining exact location of tail structure of aircraft. ATC procedures specify priority of clearing runway over requirements not to block txwys. Increased awareness should be given to this requirement and emphasis made that if any doubt exists as to the location of aft end of aircraft, query ATC. My suggestion is for increased training for awareness of this possible scenario and guidelines to assist in determining location of aircraft tail. Pilots should err on the side of safety and move aircraft onto whatever real estate is deemed necessary to ensure that aircraft has completely vacated active runway.

Title: ACR, AFTER LNDG, FAILS TO CLR RWY COMPLETELY CAUSING A GO AROUND.
Narrative: NORMAL ILS AND LNDG ONTO LAX RWY 25R. RWY 25L CLOSED. AFTER LNDG TWR INSTRUCTED US TO VACATE THE RWY AND CONTACT GND CTL. HOLDING SHORT OF INNER TXWY WE INADVERTENTLY CALLED N GND CTL WHO TOLD US TO CONTACT S GND WHICH CAUSED ABOUT A 30 SECOND DELAY IN COM. GND CLRED US TO TAXI TO THE GATE AND ASKED US TO CALL TWR ON THE TELEPHONE. DURING CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATION, TWR SUPVR INFORMED ME THAT GND RADAR HAD IDENTED THAT OUR ACFT TAIL WAS OVERHANGING RWY AREA AND THAT TWR HAD TO DELAY THE TKOF OF AN ACFT HOLDING INTO POS. DUE TO LOSS OF RWY 25L AND TIGHT ATC SPACING, THIS CAUSED THE GAR OF LNDG ACFT BEHIND US. AT THE TIME IT WAS MY BELIEF THAT ENTIRE ACFT WAS CLR OF RWY. THIS CAN BE DIFFICULT TO DETERMINE BECAUSE OF DIFFERENT LAYOUTS OF ARPT CONFIGNS, LACK OF REARWARD VISIBILITY AND NO SENSORS OR DEVICES TO ASSIST CREW IN DETERMINING EXACT LOCATION OF TAIL STRUCTURE OF ACFT. ATC PROCS SPECIFY PRIORITY OF CLRING RWY OVER REQUIREMENTS NOT TO BLOCK TXWYS. INCREASED AWARENESS SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THIS REQUIREMENT AND EMPHASIS MADE THAT IF ANY DOUBT EXISTS AS TO THE LOCATION OF AFT END OF ACFT, QUERY ATC. MY SUGGESTION IS FOR INCREASED TRAINING FOR AWARENESS OF THIS POSSIBLE SCENARIO AND GUIDELINES TO ASSIST IN DETERMINING LOCATION OF ACFT TAIL. PLTS SHOULD ERR ON THE SIDE OF SAFETY AND MOVE ACFT ONTO WHATEVER REAL ESTATE IS DEEMED NECESSARY TO ENSURE THAT ACFT HAS COMPLETELY VACATED ACTIVE RWY.
