Narrative:

Shortly after takeoff from san juan passing 1500 ft MSL, light smoke observed by both pilots. Oxygen masks donned. Left engine oil temperature observed climbing and exceeded red line. Left engine brought to idle and emergency was declared to return to sju. Flight attendants communicated smoke in cabin. Brought left engine back to idle, smoke dissipated. All appropriate checklists completed for single engine, flap 20 degree, approach and overweight landing with left engine at idle. Landing uneventful. At gate, maintenance reported left engine fuel/oil cooler failed.
