Narrative:
The distance from FBO to runway 26 at dxr is very short. There is a sign at FBO that indicates run-ups should be done after leaving the FBO area. Ground cleared us to taxi to runway 26. A short distance from the FBO I stopped, completed the run-up checks and called the tower for takeoff. The tower advised I had crossed the hold short line. I asked if the tower wanted me to turn around and move back behind the line. The tower instructed me to hold my position, which was approximately 30 ft from the runway. After 2 arrs, I was cleared for takeoff. I believe 3 factors were involved: 1) the sign at the FBO implies the need to move some distance for run-up. 2) the very short taxi distance. 3) my unfamiliarity with the airport. I was looking for hold short lines, but must have passed them thinking they were ahead. In the future, I will ask for progressive taxi instructions in such sits even if I can see the runway.

Title: SMA PVT PLT UNKNOWINGLY PASSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE DURING TAXI OUT FROM FBO IN CLOSE PROX TO THE ASSIGNED RWY.
Narrative: THE DISTANCE FROM FBO TO RWY 26 AT DXR IS VERY SHORT. THERE IS A SIGN AT FBO THAT INDICATES RUN-UPS SHOULD BE DONE AFTER LEAVING THE FBO AREA. GND CLRED US TO TAXI TO RWY 26. A SHORT DISTANCE FROM THE FBO I STOPPED, COMPLETED THE RUN-UP CHECKS AND CALLED THE TWR FOR TKOF. THE TWR ADVISED I HAD CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE. I ASKED IF THE TWR WANTED ME TO TURN AROUND AND MOVE BACK BEHIND THE LINE. THE TWR INSTRUCTED ME TO HOLD MY POS, WHICH WAS APPROX 30 FT FROM THE RWY. AFTER 2 ARRS, I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF. I BELIEVE 3 FACTORS WERE INVOLVED: 1) THE SIGN AT THE FBO IMPLIES THE NEED TO MOVE SOME DISTANCE FOR RUN-UP. 2) THE VERY SHORT TAXI DISTANCE. 3) MY UNFAMILIARITY WITH THE ARPT. I WAS LOOKING FOR HOLD SHORT LINES, BUT MUST HAVE PASSED THEM THINKING THEY WERE AHEAD. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL ASK FOR PROGRESSIVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS IN SUCH SITS EVEN IF I CAN SEE THE RWY.
