Narrative:
On the evening of may/wed/02 we were assigned aircraft X. The aircraft was OTS for engine vibration. Upon troubleshooting, it was determined to require a #2 engine change. With management, air carrier X management was contacted on the morning of may/tue/02. At that time it was understood that since I was MD80 qualified with air carrier Y and competent in MD80 engine changes, that I was able to perform maintenance on this aircraft. On the night of may/tue/02 I was assigned the #2 engine change, which was performed per air carrier X maintenance work card XXXX. At approximately XA30 on may/wed/02 it was brought to my attention that I was possibly not qualified to perform maintenance on air carrier X aircraft reference letter dated oct/xa/92 from mr X to mr Y. This is the first time I have seen this letter.
