Narrative:
Level FL240, established J145, just north of burgs intersection. Received a TCASII resolution. Followed TCASII guidance, climbed to FL245. Informed ZOB of TCASII resolution and altitude deviation. We passed overhead a widebody transport aircraft. After clear of traffic, we returned to our assigned altitude of FL240. When we received the TA, we visually acquired the aircraft. TCASII indicated he was 1200 ft below and climbing. When TCASII issued a traffic resolution, we couldn't determine visually whether we'd maintain proper separation. We followed the TCASII guidance which never allowed us to get within 1000 ft vertical separation.

Title: A TFC CONFLICT RESOLVED BY COMPLIANCE WITH A TCASII RA.
Narrative: LEVEL FL240, ESTABLISHED J145, JUST N OF BURGS INTXN. RECEIVED A TCASII RESOLUTION. FOLLOWED TCASII GUIDANCE, CLBED TO FL245. INFORMED ZOB OF TCASII RESOLUTION AND ALTDEV. WE PASSED OVERHEAD A WDB ACFT. AFTER CLR OF TFC, WE RETURNED TO OUR ASSIGNED ALT OF FL240. WHEN WE RECEIVED THE TA, WE VISUALLY ACQUIRED THE ACFT. TCASII INDICATED HE WAS 1200 FT BELOW AND CLBING. WHEN TCASII ISSUED A TFC RESOLUTION, WE COULDN'T DETERMINE VISUALLY WHETHER WE'D MAINTAIN PROPER SEPARATION. WE FOLLOWED THE TCASII GUIDANCE WHICH NEVER ALLOWED US TO GET WITHIN 1000 FT VERT SEPARATION.
